Explanation of Dedicated Server Packages
When we talk about hosting servers, there are three basic types - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web servers host lots of customers and so the system resources per hosting account are restricted, virtual private servers offer more configuration freedom, but also influence other private virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the opportunity to carry out everything you want without interfering with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated servers?
Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared servers or private virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is very simple. If your firm has a high-traffic web page, or just has very explicit server setup requirements, the most reasonable option would be a dedicated servers. For someone who is willing to invest in security and stability, the higher price is not a problem. You are bestowed with root access and can utilize 100 percent of the physical server's resources without anyone else availing of these resources and messing with your sites.
Hardware configurations
Most hosting distributors, incl. us at Vitohosting, provide several hardware architectures you can select from in keeping with your needs. The hardware configurations offer different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard disk sizes and different monthly traffic allowances. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient user interface if you wish to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use a Secure Shell terminal for all the changes you will be making. We provide 3 kinds of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting Control Panel of your choosing
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated servers through a Secure Shell console only. That, though, could be inconvenient, particularly if you decide to grant full root privileges to somebody else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is an excellent idea. The Hepsia hosting CP interface that we offer does not include full root access and is mainly appropriate for someone who has lots of web pages that consume a lot of system resources, but would like to manage the web sites, databases and electronic mail aliases via an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you complete root access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans rather than using the dedicated servers just for yourself, you should pick one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at Vitohosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting services provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would permit you to have the very same data on two hard drives as a precaution in case of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full server root access deletes something by mistake.
