Dedicated Servers Defined
When we talk about hosting web servers, there are 3 principal types - shared web hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting web servers accommodate a lot of customers and hence the system resources per account are restricted, virtual private server packages offer more server configuration autonomy, but also affect other VPS web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the independence to perform everything you decide without messing with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated server?
16 GB DDR4 RAM
2x240 GB SSD Hard Drives
8 GB DDR3 RAM
2x480 GB SSD Hard Drives
Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared web hosting servers or VPS web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is quite simple. If your company has a resource-intensive web portal, or simply has very precise web server setup requirements, the right choice would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is prepared to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is not a problem. You gain full root privileges and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's resources without anyone else sharing these resources and intervening with your sites.
Hardware architectures
Most shared hosting service providers, incl. us at Vitohosting, offer several hardware architectures you can select from in line with your necessities. The hardware architectures offer different kinds of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and server hard drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient interface if you want to use the dedicated hosting server for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell console for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting CP of your choosing
If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server through an SSH console only. That, however, could be inconvenient, especially if you choose to grant access to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software pre-installed is a good idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP software that we offer does not give you full root access and is mainly suitable for somebody who maintains multiple web portals that consume a lot of resources, but wishes to manage the online portals, databases and mail aliases using an intuitive hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you complete root access and include 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts rather than utilizing the dedicated web hosting server just for yourself, you should select one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup services
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is desirable to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at Vitohosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on two server hard disk drives as a precaution in case of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete root access erases something by mistake.
